A Hearing Center for Preventing Hearing Loss? | General health

Health and Fitness | General health | * Written by Andrea Avery | Wednesday, 01 August 2012 07:24 | Word Count: 473

Hearing loss seems like such a scary thing. With modern technology, you can diagnose and treat hearing loss. With hearing centers in most communities it's easier than ever to be seen. Understanding the three parts of the ear will you understand hearing loss.

The ear has three parts: The outer, middle and inner ear. The outer ear is the canal you stick your cotton swab to far down. The eardrum is also a part of the outer ear. It is the part your grandmother always warned you about when you were cleaning your ears. She was right. Your eardrum is very sensitive. The middle ear consists of three small bones called ossicles. When the eardrum vibrates it causes the ossicles to vibrate this causes movement of the fluid in the inner ear. The inner ear otherwise known as cochlea causes hair cells to move. When they move they send a signal to the brain. Now let's talk about two types of hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss is when something is keeping sound waves from traveling properly through the ear. This can be caused by earwax buildup, fluid in the ear perhaps from an ear infection. Here are less common causes such as a tumor, or perhaps your child stuck a pea in their ear. With children you never know. This type of hearing loss may or may not be able to be repaired with surgery.

Another type is sensorineural. This type of damage is often a result of damage to the hair cells. This damage could be present in newborns or it could be brought on most often from loud noise. In fact, this is why you should not listen to your MP3 player to loud. Musicians, construction workers and farmers are all susceptible to this type of loss. This type of loss can also be genetic. So what other than not sticking a cotton swab to far down your ears or listening to music loudly can you do?

Well moms you will like this: every couple of hours, a break from constant noise, such as a colicky baby, or the loud concert. A few minutes of silence can help the inflammation go down. So pass that baby to dad, your ears really do need a break. Another idea is to use earplugs around gunfire and maybe even while mowing the lawn. Yes these levels of noise are dangerous to your hearing. Regular visits with your local hearing center along with keeping the volume down can be an ounce of prevention. If you do suffer from hearing loss your hearing center can guide you toward your next step.

The Use Of Social Networking Sites

If you are an internet user, you are definitely familiar with social networking sites. Aside from using e-mail, chatting and searching, internet offers almost everything. Today, social networking sites are one of the most visited web sites; most of the people who use internet usually do have their own account on these social networking sites.

Social networking sites do have different features and the development of these sites is continuous to give their members a different way to communicate, discuss things, play and socialize with their friends from different part of the world. One main goal of these social networking sites is to re-unite people who have not seen for a long time.

You can easily search your long lost friend on these sites and one good example is the Facebook. There are millions and millions of people who use Facebook and if you will be searching for a person, you can use this site and be re-united with your High school friends.

There is an option where in you can search your friend by providing personal information such as name, address, school, work place. Providing all of this information can help you filter out your search. There are those people that you can not found on Facebook because some of the members do not use their real name or if you are looking for a girl?s name, she may be using her maiden name.

One of the reasons why other people do not use their real name and do not provide personal information on social networking sites is because of their personal security.

Internet is free for all in the same way that Facebook is being used by many people. Anyone can have an accessed on your account as long as they are included on your friend list, which is why it will be better to review your friend list and make sure that you personally know those people or somewhat you have been acquainted to each other for security purposes.

Understanding Branding In Business Consulting | Oseme Creative

By M. Isi Eromosele

As economic conditions shift, so do clients? perceptions of value in the business?consulting sector. Clients that have put projects on hold are tentatively reaching?out to services firms to re-start these initiatives.

Additionally, clients also feel a fresh openness to weighing new options against their tried-and-true provider. When it comes to weighing options, clients see a sector in flux.

Consolidation among large business consulting players has clients considering whether their business would be better handled by the biggest and best: global organizations that keep expanding to offer everything they could possibly outsource.

On the other hand, clients see the emergence of boutique players who are walking away from large players, taking years of experience with them and offering great services faster and cheaper.

In Business Consulting, Branding Is Still Poorly Leveraged And Understood

With business consulting firms competing more than ever for client attention and?loyalty, the expectation would be that professional service leaders would be hard at work?positioning their corporate brands to ensure differentiation, relevance and credibility.

Incredibly, this is not the case. In business consulting, the importance of brand often goes unrecognized. When it is acknowledged as a component of the organization?s presence in the market, it tends to be considered as a marketing expense, rather than a driver of value for the company.

As a result, a brand?s ability to provide a competitive advantage is minimal to non-existent. What?s so sad about this lack of understanding among services firms is that?branding has become a more powerful factor than ever in the sector.

The perception that other drivers of choice (price, services, experience and quality) are separate and untouched by branding is based on outmoded thinking and the desire to keep on conducting business as usual.

The fact is that effective branding drives value in business consulting. In some categories?of the consulting business, branding drives 30-40 percent of client choice behavior.?Unfortunately, few consulting services players know how much influence their brand has on their clients? buying behavior.

Build Powerful Business Consulting Brands Through People

For branding to be a driver of choice, two things need to change.?First, business consulting firms must rethink their prejudices about branding their firms. In a world where even not-for-profit organizations are reaping the benefit of innovative brand programs, the time has come for business consulting firms to re-examine their outdated beliefs.

Second, business consulting firms must take advantage of the high-touch, human?centered nature of their sector. When services firms do prioritize their brand, they often rely heavily on the application of mass market branding techniques without sufficient thought to their relevance to business consulting.

To break through via human relationships, internal brand engagement will be an essential driver of success and a key component of the firm?s branding model.

Why Is Branding So Poorly Understood In Business Consulting?

Some business consulting leaders may disagree with the assertion that branding is not understood in their organizations. Some leaders would assert that they have consistent visual and verbal expressions and proudly boast high-quality advertising campaigns.

Yet, this is precisely the problem. Their efforts to make an impression through a mass-media promise are only one component of a strong brand strategy and more often than not, may not always have an impact on client decision making.

Decision making is instead influenced by whether or not the brand can deliver on their promise and drive business success.

In a sector so concerned about competitive pressures and commoditization of services,?business consulting firms almost universally use the brand in a way that is opposite of its?intent. Branding has become a tool to suggest similarities rather than point out unique?qualities and differences.

An analysis of their external communication and brand experience reveal shockingly homogenized propositions: visually undifferentiated, described with dense industry-specific terminology and industry jargon and positioned with service offerings so similar?that the descriptions of one firm could be interchanged for those of another.

Understanding Requires Model Shift

Business consulting firms must shift their thinking when it comes to understanding?branding of their firms. There are three branding questions that must be answered to foster understanding and leveraging of their brands:

Understanding Fosters Engagement

Any efforts to build a strong business consulting firm begin with understanding:

  • What brands and branding means?
  • What opportunities a strong brand presents?
  • Why it is relevant to everyone at an individual level?

By changing perceptions and shifting branding models, a firm can begin to move from ?thinking? to ?doing.? That?s where internal brand engagement comes in.

As branding models shift, employees will be open to seeing their notions of the branding shift. For business consulting, branding has often been limited to the promise: acquiring customers through communications and marketing campaigns.

This narrow application fails to leverage the very best of the firm, its people as well as?its ability to prove the brand?s power to deliver on its promises.

To Build Brand Value, Promise And Deliver

Engagement means involving employees in delivering a specific, desired customer?experience over and over again, via the touch points that matter most.

Using internal brand engagement to improve the value of the brand is a natural fit for business consulting, where high-touch relationships are critical and the transition from thinking about reputation to thinking about the larger brand experience can be smooth when done strategically and comprehensively.

  • A strategic internal brand engagement program utilizes branding as a strategic tool to achieve specific, long-term goals. It requires involvement from the leadership to the most junior positions and includes learning experiences with specific objectives and outcomes.
  • A comprehensive internal brand engagement program means that every function in the services firm must play a role in delivering on what the brand promises. This takes branding out of the sales and acquisition role (closely tied to marketing) and puts it in everyone?s hands, including human resources, who have a uniquely crucial role in attracting the talent necessary to make the brand experience second to none.

India blackout leaves 370 million in dark

NEW DELHI (AP) ? Northern India's power grid crashed Monday, halting hundreds of trains, forcing hospitals and airports to use backup generators and leaving 370 million people ? more than the population of the United States and Canada combined ? sweltering in the summer heat.

The blackout, one of the worst to hit India in a decade, highlighted the nation's inability to feed a growing hunger for energy as it strives to become a regional economic power.

The country's northern grid crashed about 2:30 a.m. because it could no longer keep up with the huge demand for power in the hot summer, officials in the state of Uttar Pradesh said. However, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said he was not sure exactly what caused the collapse and had formed a committee to investigate it.

The grid feeds the nation's breadbasket in Punjab, the war-wracked region of Kashmir, the burgeoning capital of New Delhi, the Dalai Lama's Himalayan headquarters in Dharmsala and the world's most populous state, the poverty stricken Uttar Pradesh.

By late morning, 60 percent of the power had been restored in the eight northern states affected by the outage and the rest was expected to be back on line by the afternoon, Shinde said. The grid was drawing power from the neighboring Eastern and Western grids as well as getting hydroelectric power from the neighboring mountain kingdom of Bhutan.

Without electricity, residents were roused from sleep when their fans and air conditioners stopped, and came out of their homes in New Delhi's sweltering heat as the entire city turned dark. Temperatures in the city were in the mid 30s (90s Fahrenheit) with 89 percent humidity. New Delhi's renowned Metro transit system, with 1.8 million daily riders, was forced to shut down for hours during the morning commute. Some trains across the northern region were stranded when their electric engines failed. Others were delayed by hours as they were hooked to diesel engines.

While the outage Monday was unique in its reach, its impact was softened by Indians' familiarity with almost daily power outages of varying duration. Hospitals and major businesses have generators that kick in when during power cuts, and upscale homes run on backup systems powered by truck batteries.

"This will obviously get worse," said Subhash Chawla, a 65-year-old retiree who took the Metro once power was restored. "Unless the Metro has a separate power supply, it will be chaos in the future."

The failure was the first time since 2001 that the northern grid had collapsed. But India's demand for electricity has soared since then as its economy has grown sharply. The outage was a reminder of the country's long road ahead in upgrading its infrastructure to meet its aspirations of being an economic superpower.

India's Central Electricity Authority reports power deficits of about 8 percent in recent months. But any connection to the grid remains a luxury for many. One-third of India's households do not even have electricity to power a light bulb, according to last year's census.

Transmission and distribution losses in some states are as much as 50 percent because of theft and connivance of employees in the power industry.

The power deficit was worsened by a weak monsoon that lowered hydroelectric generation and kept temperatures higher, further increasing electricity usage as people seek to cool off. Shivpal Singh Yadav, the power minister in the state of Uttar Pradesh, home to 200 million people, said that while demand during peak hours hits 11,000 megawatts, the state can only provide 9,000 megawatts.

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation chief Avnish Awasthi blamed the grid collapse on states drawing more than their allotted power to meet the summer demand,

Earlier this month, angry crowds blocked traffic and clashed with police after blackouts in the Delhi suburb of Gurgaon that houses many high-rise apartment blocks and offices. With no power in some neighborhoods for more than 24 hours, people erected blockades that paralyzed traffic for several hours.
