Fourth and Goal Supports the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge ...

Message from Sanford J. Siegel, M.D. President and CEO Chesapeake Urology Associates:

The Great Prostate Cancer Challenge (GPCC) 5K is just 4 weeks away.

The program was established five years ago by Chesapeake Urology Associates (CUA) to raise awareness about the importance of prostate cancer, not only for men, but also for their families. We also have raised over $500,000 in Baltimore to fund research to find a cure for this and other cancers and have provided screening opportunities for more than 5,000 men who, for many, would never have been availed of the opportunity.

I am reaching out to you once again for your help. The GPCC?s mission is to bring widespread attention and awareness to prostate cancer and men?s health in the same way that organizations like The Susan G. Komen Foundation have brought attention to breast cancer and women?s health issues.

This is the fifth Great Prostate Cancer Challenge. We have grown from one host city, Baltimore in 2007, to 27 cities hosting their own GPCC?in 2011. Our Baltimore GPCC 5K Walk/Run is Sunday, September 25, and this year it will again be held at Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University. The event will start at 8:30 AM. Get there early as there will be plenty to see and do even if you do not walk or run. Marty Bass, our MC, promises it will be sunny and 77 degrees. It will be a magnificent day!

This year in Baltimore, we expect to have 3,000 to 3,500 people there as well as more than 50 corporate sponsors. Lenny Moore is our honorary chairman again this year. Many others will attend including hundreds of prostate cancer survivors, The Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Colts including Jim Mutscheller, Maxie Baughan, Bruce Laird, Tom Matte, Joe Washington, Toni Linart, members of the Negro Baseball Hall of Fame, and many others. WJZ provides live coverage of the event and Radio-One will be broadcasting from the event also. Marty Bass is the MC. Dr. Welsh, President of Towson University, will be an honored guest for the event.

We are hoping to have local companies and schools form?teams for the run including Advanced Radiology, American Radiology, Baltimore Magazine, Hopkins, Coppin?State, Loyola Blakefield, Pikesville?Senior High, The Milford Academy, Owings Mills High School, The Calvert Hall School, The Gilman School, Park School, Boys Latin, McDonogh, UMBC, Towson University, Stevenson University, Goucher College and many, many others. It will be a great event and a great time.

The GPCC website is www.greatprostatecancerchallenge.com. Please, take a look at the site. Sign up early. We have great give-a-ways and raffle items. There will be cash awards and Newton Running shoes to the men and women group winners. I have attached our GPCC flyer for the event. Please, reach out; spread the word to your friends and family to join you to help make our fifth year our best. Everyone is welcome to come or donate.

Thanks again for you support,
