To make its new C-Max Energi com?pet?i?tive with the Toy?ota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, Ford engi?neers have writ?ten a set of algo?rithms called EV+ that tap the car?s GPS to learn dri?ving habits and then mod?ify bat?tery usage so the vehi?cle stays in elec?tric mode as long as pos?si?ble. Once EV+ rec?og?nizes that the dri?ver is in route to going home or other famil?iar loca?tion where charg?ing usu?ally hap?pens, the sys?tem will keep tap?ping the bat?tery rather than switch to the gaso?line engine to con?serve energy. Ford Motor Co. was proud to announce that in the five years since its launch, five mil?lion of its vehi?cles have been sold equipped with the Sync infotainment/connectivity sys?tem.
