The 49ers parted ways with executive vice president Lal Heneghan, who had been with the team since 2006. CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco first reported the news.
Heneghan oversaw the team's day-to-day football administration and legal affairs.
The 49ers told Maiocco that it was part of the organization's plan to "restructure and reorganize duties." Heneghan was with the Browns from 1998-2004.
The team also promoted Jeff Ferguson to director of football operations and sports medicine. He spent the last five seasons as the team's head athletic trainer.
