Tips For Backpacking Guatemala | Detailed Information

Backpacking is a term that has been generally used to refer limited budget world exploration. It is a unique experience for most young travelers who call themselves backpackers. They travel, hike, camp out, and explore urban settings with a large backpack instead of the commonly used suitcase. They also look for low-cost alternatives such as cheap flights, affordable nice hostels, free services and cheap food. They travel to discover beautiful places with low costs of living. With an open-mind, backpackers sacrificed comfort to gain companionship. One of the top destinations for backpackers in Central America region is Guatemala.

Guatemala is one of Central America?s distinct and spectacular features. It?s the lowest-cost country in the region consisting of must-see beautiful places. From jungle hiking, to volcano climbing, to temple sight-seeing, to market shopping and to wild river relaxing, backpacking Guatemala has it all, leaving you a wonderful experience for a lifetime.

Must-see Places in Guatemala

Tikal is the largest, most famous and most visited site in Guatemala. Proclaimed as UNESCO?s world?s heritage site, populated by thousands of Mayans; a society of human sacrifice and wars, believing in Gods and astronomy. The city has twenty percent excavations and still has many ruins uncovered. Backpackers find it amazing and worth visiting. It?s excavated ruins are commonly visited during day trips and some backpackers likes to stay overnight on Tikal?s grounds or hotels in villages nearby. Climbing to one of its excavated temples will give you an amazing view over the ancient Maya site.

Flores is another popular site for backpackers in Guatemala. It?s a friendly little village in a little island close to the Tikal ruins and it settles beautifully near the Lago Pet?n Itzu. A bridge connects the small island to the mainland.

El Remate is also a nice village located near Lago Pet?n. It is located between Tikal and Flores sites. It?s wonderful and relaxing views over the lake are highly recommended for backpackers who like to avoid tourists-crowded places in Flores.

Exploring the jungle near the Lago Pet?n is also a must-try adventure for backpackers in Guatemala. El Mirador, the largest Mayan city ever found and still being excavated, is also a favorite tourist destination in Guatemala. It can be reached through a helicopter ride or by walking through the jungle.

Backpacking can also be tough because it involves a lot of walking and you will always encounter a lot of mosquitoes on these places. Two commonly used Central America backpacking tips can be helpful:

? Always make sure to bring enough mosquito repellant creams or sprays.
? Leave early in the morning to make sure you will arrive early in the site. Few visitors will arrive early in the morning, so you will get the chance to enjoy more of the view. On top of the excavated temples, you will also get the chance to listen and see the beautiful wildlife waking up. Truly, an experience of a lifetime.
